The course is open to anyone and is designed for people with little or no knowledge of statistics who want to develop an understanding of basic statistics.

Workshop Description

The aim of this course is to introduce you to basic statistics. It will cover descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations); data exploration; basic categorical data analysis; simple linear regression and basic analysis of variance (ANOVA). The statistical package R will be used to illustrate the ideas demonstrated. Participants will bring their own laptops allowing them to immediately apply the material covered through a series of practical examples.

Outline

  • Day 1: Introduction to data explorationand inference; introduction to comparison of means (T tests); sampling distributions 
  • Day 2: Simple linear regression; one-way ANOVA; analysis of proportions and odds; contingency tables

Cost

  • $390 (exclusive GST) for students
  • $650 (exclusive GST) for all other enrolments (note: UWA staff are eligible for a 20% discount of this amount when paying directly from a PG via electronic transfer)
