The course is open to anyone and is designed for people with little or no knowledge of statistics who want to develop understanding of basic statistics.

Workshop Description

The aim of this course is to introduce you to basic statistics. It will cover descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations);  data exploration; basic categorical data analysis; simple linear regression and basic analysis of variance (ANOVA). The statistical package SPSS will be used to illustrate the ideas demonstrated. The course will be held in a computer laboratory allowing participants to immediately apply the material covered through a series of practical examples.

Outline

  • Day 1: Introduction to SPSS; introduction to data exploration; sampling and inference
  • Day 2: Introduction to research design and comparison of means; sampling distributions; one-way ANOVA
  • Day 3: Simple linear regression; comparison and analysis of proportions and odds; contingency tables.

Cost

$198 for UWA PhD or Masters by Research only (no coursework) students (GST inclusive)
